no_true_pairno_true_pair's 2026 Four-Character Mini-Challenge is open for sign-ups!no_true_pair is, loosely, a mad-libs-style challenge. You sign up with a list of characters, a set of prompts is posted that uses all the characters in different combinations, and you create works using those characters and prompts. For example, if your list contained Darth Vader and Mickey Mouse as numbers 2 and 4, there could be a prompt like "2 & 4 go out for coffee" or "4 invites 2 out for dinner, except..." and you'd write Darth Vader and Mickey Mouse going out for coffee, or Mickey Mouse inviting Darth Vader out for dinner and then going from there.
1. Leave a comment with your numbered list of four characters.
As per previous rounds:
• your list can contain characters from one fandom or different fandoms
• you may use your original characters
• you may have more than one list (as many as you like)
• every character in your list will have a prompt with every other one
2. This is a low-pressure challenge. Signing up does not obligate you to create anything.
3. Tell your friends and have fun!

If you feel like earning Extra Exchange Bonus Points, more beta volunteers are always welcome. And you might not have time to consume a canon to fulfil a pinch hit, but if a requested canon has caught your eye, why not try picking it up for a future exchange?
Treats are also welcome for all prompts! Treats can be as short as you like. If any pinch hitters choose to leave prompts, you can find them here.

- Check your recipient's Do-Not-Wants. Yes, this could be an awkward time to discover a point of conflict or ambiguity, but better now than on reveals. I am still happy to pass on questions to recipients.
- Check that the version you uploaded is the version you intended to upload. Please make sure your work is checked over for spelling, grammar, coherence, and polish. Betas are not mandatory in this exchange. A minimum standard of presentation is mandatory. So if you know you're not the best at picking out your own typos, tense switches, or when you've drawn impossible anatomy, please seek feedback. (See beta post)
- Consider when you will be able to comment on your gift. You may have had original plans that were scuppered by schedule delays - I'm sorry about that. If all goes well, the anonymous period of the exchange will be between 21 March and 4 April. Please try to comment within that period; if that's not possible, please try to comment soon after. You are also very welcome to comment on other works as soon as reveals happen.
- Check that your work is set to allow comments. You don't have to enable guest comments, but please ensure your recipient can comment on your work, at least during the anon period. If this is a problem, please discuss it with me at mod.modzilla@gmail.com
